Industry Associations release the ECS-SRIA for 2022

This is the fifth edition and an update of the ECS Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (ECS-SRIA) which was jointly developed by the members of the three industry associations: AENEAS, EPoSS and Inside. This edition will be the basis for proposals for KDT Call 2 and Xecs call 2. It describes the Major Challenges and priorities, and the necessary R&D&I efforts to tackle them, in the area of the electronics components and systems, and systems of systems, spanning the entire ECS value chain, from foundational and cross-sectional technologies to application fields.

ECS-SRIA 2022: An update!

The ECS SRIA 2022 includes tools for easier navigation within the document with the introduction of a global outline programme , chapters cross-references and a keywords index. The updates of the fifth version cover the entire SRIA, including the feedback from the ECS community and the European Commission on specific topics, in particular with the input provided by the six thematic workshops, hosted by the associations in 2021. Its scope has been extended to include quantum technologies, integrated photonics, flexible electronics and open-source hardware.

This edition also displays improved synergies between chapters, stressing the interdisciplinarity of our Research and Innovation Agenda. Therefore Chapter 2.1 underwent a complete restructuring and editing to better delineate edge computing and artificial intelligence and their convergence towards the embedded intelligence on the edge. Besides that, the scope and coverage of the “advanced control” topic was enlarged and moved to the chapter “System of Systems”. In this document the ECS long-term vision was fully restructured and edited, covering the whole SRIA.
